Mountains

Mountains in the SONA area

SONA is a voluntary group covering the south west slopes and western area of the Kosciuszko National Park. Encompassing the towns and areas of Tumbalong in the north to Khancoban in the south and Cabramurra and Laural Hill in the east to Lankeys Creek and Kyeamba in the west.

SONA received it’s licensing from the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Parks and Wildlife Division in June 2009.

All members who care for animals are required under the licensing agreement from DEACC to be licenced and trained in the caring for animals in their care. To achieve these qualifications the carers are to required to attend a training course held at various times throughout the year and to do refresher courses every 2 years.

Some carers hold only one endorsement for a specific animal (e.g. Wombats) while other carers may have several endorsements for various animals.

SONA are always looking for new members and and welcome all enquiries, if you feel you would like to help and care for orphaned or injured wildlife you may download a membership application by clicking on the “Join SONA” tab at the top of this page.

We also encourage kids to be involved as young carers and have young rescuer activities and education programs that are carried out through schools and other community groups.
